Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker make friendly wager on SMU-TCU “Iron Skillet” game

Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson announced a friendly wager with Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker ahead of the final “Iron Skillet” football game between Southern Methodist University (SMU) and Texas Christian University (TCU).

The last game of the century-long SMU-TCU rivalry will take place Saturday, September 20. Per Mayor Johnson and Mayor Parker’s wager, the mayor of the losing city will donate to a nonprofit chosen by the mayor of the winning city. The two mayors announced the friendly wager in a pair of videos posted on social media, which can be viewed here and here.

The SMU Mustangs will play the TCU Horned Frogs in the final Iron Skillet game on Saturday, September 20, at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth at 11:00 a.m. CT.

If TCU beats SMU, Mayor Johnson will donate to Mayor Parker’s Good Natured Greenspace Initiative. If SMU beats TCU, Mayor Parker will donate to the Trust for Public Land’s Greener Dallas Greater Dallas campaign.

“With the final Iron Skillet game set for this weekend, I am excited to make one last wager with Mayor Parker,” said Mayor Johnson. “And I have every confidence that our Mustangs will bring the Iron Skillet back to Dallas for good.”

“Mayor Parker and I are also using this opportunity to highlight our shared commitment to parks,” Mayor Johnson added. “The Trust for Public Land is doing incredible work building a greener and greater Dallas, and I’m confident Mayor Parker will be supporting that mission very soon, when the Mustangs beat the Horned Frogs in the final Iron Skillet showdown!”

“This year, Mayor Johnson and I are going even bigger in our wager for worthy causes as the TCU Horned Frogs take on SMU for the very last time in this historic matchup,” said Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker. “I know our Frogs will bring home the Iron Skillet trophy to Fort Worth and look forward to Mayor Johnson making a donation to the Good Natured fund, which is working to preserve, protect, and expand our city’s natural heritage and green spaces.”

Mayor Johnson also officially proclaimed “Iron Skillet Week” in the City of Dallas, encouraging all Dallas residents and Mustangs fans to join in the excitement and cheer on the Mustangs in hopes of winning the game and keeping the Iron Skillet forever in Dallas.
