OBIT: TELLY LAKESHA JAMES

Telly Lakesha Monique James was born on June 6, 1975, to Jerome L. J. Harper and Ella Wee Taylor. She cherished her spiritual journey, beginning with her early membership at Faith Memorial COGIC and later joining Koinonia Christian Church, where she found joy in studying God’s word.

A proud graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1993, Telly served her country by joining the U.S. Navy, forming lasting friendships with Keisha James and Kimberly Williams during this time. She furthered her career as a deputy at the Wayne County Sheriff Department in Detroit, Michigan, and later as a field supervisor at DART in Dallas, Texas.

Telly’s life was a testament to love, joy, and devotion. She touched the hearts of many with her radiant smile and positive spirit, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her. Telly’s legacy is characterized by her kindness, integrity, and commitment. Known for her fashion sense and passion for photography, she embraced life with enthusiasm and grace.

Telly was preceded in death by her Aunt Geneva Parker and brother LeeAndus Harper.

She is lovingly remembered by her devoted mother, Ella Wee Taylor, and her grandmother, Lillian Hawkins. Telly is also survived by her two daughters, Amani (Jordan) Porter and Evelyn-Grace M. James, along with her beloved Schnauzer, Roxie James. Additionally, she leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Canaan, Samson, and Moses. Telly is survived by four sisters, Shanda L. Jones, Stephanie (Lonnie) Clark, Lakiea Lee, and Risha Neal; and four brothers, Anthony (Rose) Taylor, Buford Taylor Jr., Steven Taylor, and Jacoby Taylor.

Her special friends from Detroit include Melvin Amerson, Cecilia McAllister, Elton Martin, Deshon Richardson, Eileen Clarkston, Chiquita Bataille, and DeShon Richardson. Telly’s memory will also be upheld by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom celebrate her life and the love she shared.

As we remember Telly, let us honor the indelible mark she made on our lives and carry forward her spirit of kindness and joy.
