Candidates forum at Friendship-West Baptist Church to feature key races

Candidates for Texas Governor, Attorney General and the 30th Congressional District will face off at a political forum sponsored by the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Friendship-West Baptist Church (FWBC) on Sunday, January 16, 2022, 3:00 p.m. at FWBC, 2020 West Wheatland Road, Dallas.

According to Dr. Andrea Hilburn, president of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter, the forum falls under the auspices of the sorority’s National Social Action Commission.

“Delta Sigma Theta Sorority continues to institute activities that focus on voter registration and education programs; combating voter suppression and supporting the full restoration of voting rights for individuals who have paid their debt to society (ex-offenders),” said Dr. Hilburn. “We are encouraging citizens to come out and become educated about the issues and the candidates. Then go and vote!“ Dr. Andrea Hilburn

Confirmations have been received from the following:Texas Governor Candidate: Michael CooperAttorney General Candidate: Lee Merritt30th Congressional District Candidates: Jasmine Crockett, Roy Williams, Keisha Lankford, Vonciel Jones Hill, Jessica Mason, Abel Mulugheta and Arthur Dixon

In addition to the forum, which will be moderated by journalist Vincent Hall, Judge Valencia Nash and Minister Danielle Ayers; there will be drive through Voter Registration in collaboration with the Poor People’s Campaign, Dallas National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the League of Women’s Voters begins at 3:00pm.

The forum will be streamed live via Friendship West Baptist Church’s FaceBook, IG, Twitter and YouTube accounts.

A virtual Candidate Fair featuring HD100, HD113, District Attorney, District Clerk, County Clerk, and County Judge candidates will begin at 2:30pm.

Recognizing the escalated COVID risk level in Dallas County; Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, FWBC Sr. Pastor, approved the event with a live audience of 200, however safety protocols will be in place along with ERT Coordinators, complete with sanitation stations and temperature checks. Attendance to the live forum will be on a first come- first serve basis.
