DALLAS — Southern Dallas celebrated a major investment in youth development Tuesday, September 30, 2025 with the opening of the Wheatland Park Football Complex, a $2.4 million facility funded through the City of Dallas bond program.
Spanning seven acres, the complex features a regulation football field, 58 parking spaces, energy-efficient lighting, irrigated landscaping, and modern furnishings. City officials said the project will not only provide safe, accessible recreational space but also spark new energy in the surrounding neighborhoods.
“This kind of transformational project can bring communities together,” said John D. Jenkins, director of Dallas Park and Recreation Department. “I think the impact is going to be families out here on weekends, celebrating their kids together.”
Troy Tyson, principal of Dallas’ David W. Carter High School, said the facility will also benefit students directly. “It opens up several avenues not just for Carter High. We no longer have to compete for field space.”
District 8 Councilwoman Lorie Blair added, “This is how bond money works, something that will bring life back into the community.”
