The Texas Democratic Party on Idaho Emergency Abortion Care Decision

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“Today, as Idahoans and Texans alike continue to live under the threat of state-sanctioned pregnancy, the MAGA-majority in the U.S. Supreme Court woefully missed the opportunity to affirm that the federal EMTALA law protects emergency abortions in every state—despite state bans.

“This decision means legal battles in states like Texas will continue in lower courts, leaving abortion access under threat nationwide. This failure by the Supreme Court underscores the urgent need for stronger federal protections for reproductive healthcare and unwavering guarantees that no woman will have to risk her life due to cruel abortion bans. And, here in Texas, our movement to restore reproductive freedoms will continue as we fight relentlessly to protect and expand access to vital healthcare services, ensuring that no Texan is left to suffer due to extreme political interference.”
