Sold-out event brings community together for cultural showcase, raises funds for National Juneteenth Museum

PLANO, Texas – More than 800 guests gathered at Legacy West in Plano to celebrate culture and community with a Juneteenth Fashion Show on Friday, June 19.

The sold-out event, held in the Lexus Box Garden at Legacy Hall, brought together community members, regional dignitaries and fashion enthusiasts for a cultural celebration honoring Juneteenth, a holiday championed by North Texas’ own Dr. Opal Lee, a passionate activist whose work highlighted this day of freedom for all.

Legacy West’s Juneteenth event perfectly captured this year’s theme, “Ubuntu: Together, We Are – Together, We Rise,” celebrating the contributions of the African-American community in fashion, design and entertainment, while honoring the global cultural influence of the African diaspora—uniting cultures, stories and style in one shared expression of heritage, pride and collective strength.

The high-energy evening began with a grand opening by Miss Juneteenth DFW Iyana Schuman, who set a tone of historical pride and celebration. Demonstrating strong civic support for the landmark event, Plano Mayor John Muns attended the celebration with his family, joining hundreds of attendees who gathered to experience a rich cultural tapestry of style and entertainment. The event was emceed by veteran media personality Lady Jade with comedian Michael Shawn and included a special co-host appearance by Black Menswear’s NeAndre Broussard. Entertainment was provided by Cupid “The Linedance King.”

Produced by Leah Frazier of Think Three Media, the event featured a runway show with an exceptional lineup of 13 collections from award-winning Black designers and premier retailers. A focal point of the evening was the exclusive Legacy West Segment styled by Kristen Briggs, which spotlighted curated, on-theme summer styles from property tenants PAIGE, Bonobos, J.Crew, Spectacles Eyewear, Madewell and Levi’s.

“The energy at this year’s Juneteenth Fashion Show was absolutely electric, and seeing the community fill the venue despite the weather underscores the deep significance of this celebration,” said Liz Gallagher, director of property marketing and specialty leasing at Legacy West. “We are profoundly grateful to everyone involved and our exceptional retail partners for standing with us.”

Additionally, a portion of the evening’s proceeds was donated to The African Think Tank, furthering the event’s commitment to making a meaningful impact.

Legacy West, known as the most successful development in North Texas history, includes 343,000 square feet of retail; 435,000 square feet of office space; and 1,300 multi-family units. The mixed-use project located in Plano, Texas is home to national and international corporate office tenants, a 303-room Renaissance Hotel, luxury retail brands, a 55,000-square-foot artisan Food Hall, plus more than 20 restaurants and eateries to choose from.
