Global talk show host inspires all

It was two Texas girls in conversation. There were lots of laughs and sage advice to live by during Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Omega Alpha Omega Chapter’s Bet On Yourself event featuring a fireside chat with journalist, executive producer, author and talk show host Tamron Hall.
Co-hosted by the University of North Texas-National Association of Black Journalists (UNT-NABJ) student chapter and the Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Journalists (DFW/ABJ) professional chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the event took place in the beautiful and massive Murchison Performing Arts Center on the University of North Texas campus in Denton, Texas on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Nearly 600 attendees were in the audience for the Omega Alpha Omega chapter’s makeup event from Feb. 22, 2026 that had to pivot and feature Hall virtually during their Founders’ Day celebration of which she was snowed in with historic blizzard conditions in New York City. Hall promised then to show up in-person in the near future.
Hall, born in Luling, Texas and raised in Fort Worth kept her promise and was happy to return home. The visit allowed her and her son and only child, Moses, whom she had at age 48, to spend time with her mother and family members who still reside in North Texas.
A graduate of Polytechnic High School and former track star, Hall ran through many phases of her life during the chat with fellow Fort Worth native and Texas Metro News Lifestyle & Culture Editor, Eva D. Coleman, who also serves as vice president-print of NABJ and immediate past president of DFW/ABJ.
From career, motherhood, resilience, reinvention, family and legacy, the audience gleaned several nuggets of inspiration and empowerment to apply to their everyday lives as the conversation reinforced the importance of betting on yourself.
A memorable point of many that Hall made struck a chord, visible from audience reaction.
“Sometimes our children and families know how resilient we are; they don’t know how happy we are… and you can be both,” Hall said.
Many social media posts and comments after the event shared and reiterated the sentiment.
Prior to the fireside chat, the program was opened with greetings from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Omega Alpha Omega Chapter President Pamela Foster, DFW/ABJ President Clarence Hill and UNT-NABJ President McGlauthon Fleming, IV.
The event also featured a precursor Bet On Yourself spotlight panel of three dynamic women who have bet on themselves in business, healthcare and entrepreneurship.
The audience heard career stories and advice from Mahisha Dellinger who founded and sold the natural hair care brand CURLS; speaker, comedian and women’s health advocate Dr. ShantaQuilette Develle; and construction entrepreneur and former Microsoft executive Melethia Tuggle.
It was a powerful Sunday afternoon with lessons for a lifetime. Always remember to bet on yourself!
