Sometimes, being determined and confident in who you are is essential. Kamira Venable is determined and focused on her goals.

A graduate from Morgan State University in May and currently working as a fellow for Texas Metro News, Venable said “I want to be a producer because I have a strong vision for storytelling and stories need to be conveyed for my generation.”

Her vibrant personality and her positive mindset has gotten her far. Hailing from Capital Heights, Maryland, Venable moved to Texas three years ago while she was still attending Morgan.

Venable attended The Seed School of Maryland from sixth through twelfth grade. Ceramics and theatre were some of her favorite classes at the school, because creating pottery taught her patience and how to appreciate her work even if she may not have liked it.

Theatre class taught her to be sure of who she is and to sing on stage without worrying about other people’s opinions of her.

After graduating from boarding school she attended Morgan State University located in Baltimore, Maryland and majored in multiplatform production and minored in screenwriting. Screenwriting is significant to her because it allowed her to express her creativity through various ways of storytelling.

“It was difficult to pick up on the writing style for playwriting because I had already learned how to scriptwrite for TV and screenwriting, so this was an additional formatting style I was unfamiliar with and would confuse me.”

Venable’s experience at one of Maryland’s four HBCUs was an overall positive one and she thoroughly enjoyed a favorite tradition, homecoming. It helped that her sister is an alum and she appreciates that the entire student body was able to come together and celebrate.

In Venable’s free time, she loves praying and reading the Bible, going to the gym, writing and singing gospel music, and trying out various baking recipes, such as banana bread. Whether she’s praying at church or producing a film, Venable continues to shine, so expect to see a lot of her as she hones her skills and shares her many talents at Texas Metro News.
