HBCU Love: Spelman College and LVMH Expand Access to Luxury Through Joint Program

Exclusive LVMH Luxury Immersion Experience Featured in ESSENCE and Ebony

Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy welcomed a group of students from Spelman College and the Atlanta University Center to Paris, France, for a behind-the-scenes, immersive tour of exclusive LVMH spaces. The educational experience was part of the College’s ‘Luxury and the Art Market’ course, which originates from Spelman’s year-long partnership with LVMH.

The course merges art curation with brand strategy, offering students direct access to industry leaders, real-world case studies and international immersion in cities like New York and Paris.

While in Paris, the students were granted access to some of LVMH’s most exclusive spaces—including the residence of Louis Vuitton himself, Le Bon Marche, the Givenchy Atelier, La Galerie Dior, and La Fondation Louis Vuitton.

Cheryl Finley, Ph.D., Walton Endowed Professor and inaugural director of the AUC’s Art History and Curatorial Studies Collection at Spelman, emphasized the significance of students gaining firsthand access to this global luxury experience.

“Having the opportunity to take my students to ‘the room where it happens’ transforms classroom learning into an intimate, behind-the-scenes exploration of LVMH. Through thoughtfully curated site visits, the essence of savoir-faire became tangible,” said Dr. Finley in an interview with ESSENCE.

In an interview with Ebony, Sydney Shaw, C’2027, said that opportunities like the LVMH immersive experience do not just open doors, but reveal doors students didn’t know existed. “At an institution without a formal fashion or branding department, access becomes the curriculum. Exposure becomes the advantage,” said Ebony in an article about the experience.

“Students walked away with a deeper understanding of the LVMH DNA,” said Finley. “And the confidence of knowing they can be part of it—through direct engagement with industry leaders and exposure to future career opportunities.”
