CORSICANA, Texas (KWTX) – Candra Rogers, 56, a Corsicana ISD educator who was blinded in her left eye in August 2024 by a student is returning to help students and families access resources beyond the classroom.

Rogers was recently named the district’s Family and Community Engagement Coordinator for Wraparound Services.

The program provides non-academic support to students in need, according to the district. The services include school uniforms, supplies, and hygiene products, all aimed at removing barriers to learning.

“We just want to care for our babies,” Rogers said. “It’s hard to learn if you don’t have everything you need.”

The program serves Corsicana ISD families and operates out of the Drane Learning Center.

The district says families must call to schedule appointments and can request assistance by submitting an online Student Assistance Form or contacting the Wraparound Services office at 903-602-8123 or 903-602-8126.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Rogers into this important role,” said Superintendent Stephanie Howell. “Her passion for building strong relationships with families and the community aligns perfectly with our district’s vision. I am confident her leadership and commitment will help us foster even greater collaboration and support for all Corsicana ISD students and families.”

Rogers began teaching in Corsicana in the 1990s and returned to the district in 2024 with her husband, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Eugene Rogers.

She has previously served as a teacher and assistant principal.

Rogers said her return to the district feels like a calling, the district says.

“God sent us back here,” she said. “There was work for us to do here, and we’re going to do the work.”
