MY TRUTH: Kamala will be on our front page

By Cheryl Smith

Vice President Kamala Harris

I was wondering and hopeful at the same time.

You see, I had gotten used to those weekly Sunday evening calls with #winwithBlackWomen.

As far as I was concerned there were more holidays to come than there were opportunities to elect Kamala Harris as President of these United States of America.

I was so pleased when I logged in and realized we were taking care of business as usual, 7 p.m. CDT!

There was an agenda with scheduled reports, panelists, and prayers.

Don’t even think that the call to action was missing because Sister Jotaka Eaddy was on point as usual and participants provided key steps to take on this journey to victory.

I continue to marvel at the sheer energy and brilliance of the ladies who gather every week. And then you have a very active chat experience!

Those sisters are logging in from everywhere, providing information and sharing resources.

Anything you need for the growth and development of your family, community, and yes, this country and ultimately the world; those sisters of #winwithBlackWomen have it! The valiant warriors of #winwithBlackWomen realize the seriousness of this election and that they can not take a break. However, the more we have on the battleground, the lighter the load for all.

Recently I told a woman that she should join the calls. This was after she questioned me about the direction of my publications: Texas Metro News, Garland Journal, and I Messenger.

She wondered why every week she had to read about Vice President Kamala Harris, and on the front page! It was interesting to hear her thoughts because I had anticipated someone questioning me. I wondered if she realized that there were publications that don’t give her coverage and there are others that disparage her at every turn.

Since President Joe Biden announced that he would not be seeking a second term, and then he passed the baton to his VP, our front pages have included insightful, informative, eye-opening, provocative and empowering features, commentaries, and investigative pieces about the woman who the street committee says is going to be triumphant on November 5, 2024.

Mark that day down, but mark some other days down also, like:

Now for those who feel inundated with information about Vice President Harris, you’re welcome. It has been my pleasure to serve and ensure that I remain on the right side of history by providing you with the information you need to be a responsible and informed voter. Speaking of history, while we ask for fair and balanced coverage, we’ve suffered tremendously because of media outlets that spewed misinformation and disinformation; many times to the detriment of our people.

I’m attempting to level the playing field.

And at least I am sharing the truth.

So we have eight more weeks of Kamala Harris on the front pages. Well, it’s actually nine more because any paper that comes out following the election should have her picture with headlines reading: Victory, The First, Kamala Wins; or something to that effect!
