The Dallas Mavericks’ season to remember – in which they won the Western Conference, landed in the NBA Finals, and were 3 games from their second champion – ended less than two weeks ago

It’s now but a distant memory after the bombshell news dropped Monday afternoon that free agent guard Klay Thompson of the iconic Golden State Warriors reportedly agreed on a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavs per ESPN reports.

With the agreement in place, Thompson’s move to Dallas ends his historic 13-year-run with the four-time champion Warriors. He now looks to compete for a fifth title with the Mavs stars Luka Doncic (seeking his first) and Kyrie Irving (seeking his second.)

Per ESPN, the deal, negotiated by his agent Greg Lawrence of Wasserman, will require a multiteam sign-and-trade scenario that will send Mavericks guard/forward Josh Green to the Charlotte Hornets for two future second-round picks.

Thompson, 34, averaged 17.9 points per game last season, his lowest since the 2012-13 season. He still, however, has plenty left in the tank and is ready to show that in a new uniform, in a new city, alongside new teammates.
