SCOTUS: MAGA Courts Ruling Undermines Justice and Emboldens January 6 Rioters

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“The Supreme Court’s decision to side with Joseph Fischer, a former police officer involved in the Capitol riot, is an outrageous denial of justice. This ruling lets Fischer off the hook and jeopardizes accountability for the 247 related cases of rioters who brought our democracy to its knees. It also offers a lifeline to Donald Trump despite his blatant orchestration of the January 6th insurrection. Chief Justice John Roberts’s opinion undermines the sacrifices made by Capitol Police officers on January 6th, and the corruption held by Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito only further taints this decision. Their dubious ethics and apparent disregard for justice compromise the integrity of the court and signal a disturbing tolerance for political violence.

“Once again, the court’s MAGA majority has shown a blatant disregard for justice and the rule of law and completely legitimizes the concerns that our highest court has been corrupted to self-serving proponents of an extremist ideology. This ruling reminds us that the architects of January 6th are on the ballot this year. Ted Cruz led the charge to challenge the election results, whipped up the mob on January 6th, then hid in a supply closet. We can defeat him and defend our democracy on November 5th.”
