Jeffery Lemor Wheat, 48, was booked into the Collin County jail Friday on one count of sexual assault.

WFAA-TV’s Jobin Panicker first alerted Texas Metro News about the arrest of Jeffery Wheat, after Plano Police Department confirmed that DNA evidence connected him to a sexual assault case.

WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported that Wheat’s DNA linked him to an April 2, 2011, attack on a woman at her Plano home, according to an affidavit. The assailant called the woman several days later to check on her, police said.

That assault was the second in a series of attacks on women—all of them alumnae of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority who were in their 50s or 60s—over an 11-month period, which police have said were committed by the same man.

On Nov. 11, 2010, the attacker tried to sexually assault a woman in Plano. On Sept. 15, 2011, he sexually assaulted a woman in Coppell. And on Oct. 14, 2011, he sexually assaulted a woman in Shady Shores.

The attacker is known as “Pookie,” by publisher Cheryl Smith and others who have followed the serial rapist case for over a decade after at least four members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. were sexually assaulted.

Since the story first appeared on the pages of I Messenger Media publications every issue has carried the sketch of the perpetrator, asking for any information that would lead to an arrest.

The 48-year-old, who was arrested in Arkansas on sexual assault charges, was transferred back to Texas, where he remains in the Collin County Detention Center, on a $500,000 bond.
