DART Celebrates 40 Years of Service to North Texas Residents

On August 13, 1983, the formation of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) was approved by the voters of North Texas with a goal of providing a transportation system that could be operated efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively. 40 years later there is a multimodal network of bus, rail, paratransit, and commuter rail. DART is responsible for 42.7 million passenger trips a year.

To celebrate the past 40 years of serving the residents of North Texas, DART is holding a series of block parties across our 13 Service Area cities over the next five months.

The first DART celebration will take place on Saturday, August 12, at Dallas College North Lake Campus Station in Irving (1770 W. Walnut Hill Lane), from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This community event will have a focus on family with back-to-school giveaways and programs, including food trucks and carnival games, as well as performances by the Irving Girls Cheerleaders Association, Irving High School Mariachi Band, and DART’s 40th Anniversary Spoken Word Artist. Residents throughout North Texas are invited to attend any of the DART block party events taking place. More information about the DART 40th Anniversary as well as future celebrations can be found on our website at DART.org/40th.
