Garland Journal

Construction for safety improvements on Lawson Road have been completed according to City of Mesquite officials.

The reconstruction was a part of a larger plan to rebuild the road in the southern part of the city. The total cost of the project was $959,480.

The project began in December 2022 and added three feet of shoulder and a safety guardrail on both sides of Lawson Road between East Cartwright Road and Milam Road. The City was awarded a Highway Safety Improvement Program grant of $400,000 for the improvements.

The City has also performed a preliminary route study to examine the possibilities of widening Lawson Road from two to four lanes from Interstate 20 to U.S. Highway 80. The study will be used as a guide for the consideration of future projects.
