Brenda Barnett, born to Joe and Ruby Love Laney on August 26, 1952, in McDonough, GA, was a woman of deep faith and love. A proud graduate of Westside High School, she built a fulfilling career with JC Penny Corporation and later with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), serving until her retirement.
Brenda found spiritual homes at Shiloh Baptist Church and later at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta. Her faith journey led her to Dallas, where she met and married her devoted husband, Alfonzo Barnett. Brenda was a loving mother to three children: Delynthia Joyce Slaughter (deceased), Marcus Hosea Slaughter, and Richard Dennis. Alfonzo’s sons, Steven and William Barnett, were cherished additions to her family.
Brenda was the beloved sister of Wyman, Daniel, and Marvin Laney. She was predeceased by her siblings Annie Jean Lamar-Dunn, Sandra Jo Laney, and infants Gayle and Melvin Laney. Brenda’s life was a testament to her faith, her love for her family, and her commitment to her work.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
