Texas Unemployed May Get Additional Relief

By Allana J. Barefield

The Texas Workforce Commission is trying its best to help unemployed Texans. Recently, TWC applied for an extra federal unemployment benefit that will consist of $300 per a week and will be available to qualified Texans who meet the criteria. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott informed the public of this change on August 20th.

The extra funds being requested from TWC is possible from President Donald Trump’s Lost Wage Assistance Executive Order. The request has not been approved, but Abbott’s office said if the benefits are approved then applicants first payment will be on or after August 23. The amount is half of what the unemployed were receiving earlier in the summer.
