Mayor Eric Johnson to Host Mayor’s Back to School Fair

Despite the changes brought on by the current pandemic, the City of Dallas in conjunction with Inspiring Body of Christ Church will still hold its annual Back to School Fair this month.

Students and their families will be able to receive necessary supplies and resources for the upcoming school year.

Families should present various documents to show they qualify for school supplies, including a picture ID, proof of City of Dallas residency and additional proof that they meet Federal Poverty Guidelines. Those attending will also be asked to follow protocols to help limit potential exposure to COVID-19; including wearing a mask and social distancing.

“The Mayor’s Back to School Fair is a critical annual event for thousands of families in Dallas,” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said. “No matter what school looks like this year, our children deserve to be set up for academic success. While this year’s fair will be different, it will be even more important to our families. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased need in our city, and the fair is another way for us to help those who can’t afford the added expense of school supplies right now.

“We need to do everything we can to try to restore some routine and normalcy to our young people. That in part is why I’m so happy to be able to continue this year.”

Walk-ups will be allowed for those without a car from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, Aug. 20. The next day, the fair will feature a drive-through event, where school supplies will be placed in family vehicles. The drive-through event is scheduled from 9 am to 2 pm on Aug. 21 at Fair Park. Resources are limited and pre-registration is required. Register here: https://mayorsbacktoschoolfair.com/.
