Carlene Hayles Strickland (affectionately nicknamed Shane by her Mama) was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 1, 1956, to Reverend Robert and Lucille Hayles. She was one of seven children. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Messiah Baptist Church where her father pastored in the same city. Carlene attended Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from Collinwood High School in 1974. She later graduated from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas with a degree  in Business. Her vocation and career were spent in the business and accounting fields. She was married to Charles Strickland who proceeded her in death after their divorce. She was also proceeded in death by her parents, her eldest brother Robert Hayles Jr. (Bobby), her eldest sister Jacqueline Hayles Landry Sparks and her middle son Stephen Strickland (Man). She leaves behind to carry on, her sons, Charlton Strickland of Dallas, Texas and Levell Taylor of Mobile, Alabama; three remaining siblings, Percy Edward Hayles of Boston, Massachusetts, June (Eric) Price of Toledo, Ohio and Gary (Andrea) Hayles of Cincinnati, Ohio, a beloved brother-in-law, Donnie Sparks of Dallas, Texas, a sister-in-law, Debbie Hayles Gully, along with a host of nephews, nieces, a beautiful granddaughter and a beloved caregiver (Jesse). Carlene Hayles Strickland was a loving and gifted woman, “about business” and full of laughter ready to share it. We will miss you Carlene!
