Praise for Biden’s SOTU Speech

By Joseph Green-Bishop Texas Metro NewsCorrespondent Vice President Kamala Harris was joined by North Texas political leaders who applauded President Biden’s State of the Union address onTuesday night in the nation’s capital in Washington before a national and international audience. The vice president, who sat behind the president during the address with Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, led numerous standing ovations the president received when he recalled legislation passed during his time in office. “A lot of good work has happened, but more work needs to be done,” the vice president said during a nationally televised interview on Wednesday morning. “I think the president was in command and he focused on the America people.” “President Biden affirmed his commitment to protecting the soul of our nation while working with numbers on both sides of the aisle to address problems,” said North Texas Congressman Marc Veasey who represents the Congressional  District 33. Congressman Veasey said that he worked closely with President Biden during the past two years to achieve sensible gun legislation, gains in infrastructure, and job creation for unemployed and underemployed Americans. “I am proud of what we have accomplished,” said Veasey. “I look forward to continuing our work to deliver common-sense solutions that will better the lives of our fellow Americans.” “Last night President Biden reminded us why the overwhelming majority of Americans voted him in office in 2020,” said Kardal Coleman,  the vice chairman of the Dallas CountyDemocratic Party. “He demonstrated that bipartisanship is still possible in our country,” said Coleman who added that he believed that President Biden would be vigilant in his attempts to lower student debt, pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, eliminate student loan debt and ensuring that there were no cuts in Medicare and Social Security. “President Biden is a blue-collar president,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said. “It is in his bones. It is in his DNA. It is in his background. That is who Joe Biden is.” At the very beginning of his remarks, the president applauded Congressman Jeffries for being elected the first African American leader of a major political party in the history of the Congress. In January, the Congressman from New York succeeded former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) as the leader of Democrats in the House of Representatives.
