On October 31, 2022, Susan Hays filed an ethics complaint against incumbent Ag Commissioner Sid Miller for abuse of office because he used his state office to film a political advertisement entitled “Re-elect Sid Miller!” in direct violation of Texas law.  Miller’s illegally filmed re-election ad is featured on his campaign website and his YouTube channel.

Texas law prohibits public officials from knowingly spending or authorize the spending of public funds for political advertising, including by using state offices not generally accessible to the public.

“Sid can’t help himself,” Susan said. “He is committed to unethical behavior.”
“While in the scope of Sid’s sins, this may seem like a small violation,” said Susan.  “But if we don’t call out small ethics violations, we open the door to the big ones.  He doesn’t pay the rent on that office.  His campaign doesn’t pay the rent on that office.  Texas taxpayers do.”

“Miller treats the Ag Department like his own personal playground.  We need to put a stop to it.  So today I have filed a complaint with the Travis County Attorney’s Office.  And I urge all Texas voters Republicans, Independents and Democrats alike to vote against corruption and vote Sid Miller out of office.” Susan Hays is the Democratic Nominee for Texas Agriculture Commissioner.
