A new reality TV show is trying to prove that home flippers from out of state can make some serious cash in Dallas’ real estate market.

Flip to a Million, a new series on HGTV and Discovery+ premiering Aug. 1, will drop two couples — Jason and EJ Williams of Chicago and Jon and Dani Wrobel of Long Island, New York — into Dallas, a city unfamiliar to both, in a “house-flipping experiment.”

They will set out to prove that “in the world of real estate, it’s possible to start out with almost nothing and turn it into a fortune,” according to an announcement promoting the new show. With a budget of just $1,000, each couple will buy, renovate and sell properties in Dallas with a goal of selling a house for $1 million in just six months.

To open the season, the couples will move to Dallas, research the local market, make new contacts and figure out the quickest way to start making money. To fund their first purchase, Jason and EJ Williams will take on a main bathroom renovation project and Jon and Dani Wrobel will get a finder’s fee on a house sale.

North Texas’ home-flipping industry has more than doubled in activity since a year ago. Investors flipped a record 2,675 Dallas-Fort Worth single-family homes and condos in the first quarter, representing about 13% of all sales in the area, according to Attom Data Solutions.

Texas has been fertile ground for the home and garden network. Chip and Joanna Gaines built an empire around their Fixer Upper series filmed predominantly in the Waco area. Last year, Bravo TV’s Million Dollar Listing star Fredrik Eklund joined the Dallas market by opening an office of luxury real estate firm Douglas Elliman.

This year, Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star Tracy Tutor has her eyes set on the Lone Star State. Tutor, who also works with Douglas Elliman, is expanding her real estate team outside of California for the first time, bringing on local agent Breah Brown.
