Dallas Success Story Returns to DFW to Show Mentees Where and How He Grew Up

Royle King Jr. is a Dallas success story and he’s returning home to show his young mentees where and how he grew up.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Association of Black Journalists and Don’t Believe the Hype Foundation, in conjunction with State Fair of Texas, State Rep Eric Johnson and Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, will pay tribute to Royle King, Jr. when he comes to town for the Super Bowl of Stepping, The Stomp Wars.

The Stomp Wars will be hosted by radio personality Rock T at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 3 pm.

King is bringing 12 young men who will be participating in the competition. Those young men are part of the Omega Lamplighters, a group that King founded in 2008 in Tallahassee, FL. Today, there are 20 chapters across the country.

A graduate of Dallas’ Lincoln Humanities and Communications Magnet, King studied Radio/TV at Florida A&M University. After graduation, the member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., worked as a technical director at WTXL before moving into a public information post for Leon County (Tallahassee, FL).

While at FAMU, King served in a leadership position in his fraternity and now, he is the Florida State secretary (keeper of records and seal) for Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. of which his father is also a member. He is also the president (Basileus) of the Tallahassee graduate Chi Omega Chapter.

It is so fitting that the reception will be held at Two Podners. King fondly remembers his participation in the DFW/ABJ Urban Journalism Workshop and the mentoring he received in that program, as well as his participation in the Theta Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Sparks program. In the workshop lunch was provided by Two Podners!
