On Saturday morning, June 27, 2026, began with many becoming shocked, prayerful and saddened upon hearing the message from Ishmael R. Muhammad, who is also the Student National Assistant to the Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan, and the Nation of Islam:
“The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan with deep sadness yet with profound gratitude to Allah informs you that his beloved wife of 72 years, the First Lady of the Nation of Islam, Mother Khadijah has returned to Allah (may Allah be pleased).

We thank Allah for the precious life of a loving wife, mother, a faithful devoted follower of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Mother Khadijah will forever be cherished and remembered. May Allah give His unequaled comfort to the family as we mourn this tremendous loss and lift the family in our prayers and thoughts.”
Born on November 26, 1935, her beauty, intellect, support and guidance was praised as many remembered Boston, MA born Betsy Ross who went on to marry Louis Eugene Walcott on September 12, 1953. In 1955, the two joined the Nation of Islam and eventually became Louis and Khadijah Farrakhan.

The mother of nine played an integral part in the rebuilding, growth and development of the Nation in 1977, after the passing of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad. She not only served as its first treasurer and secretary but also hosted study group meetings from their home and registered new members.

Twenty years later she took to the stage at the Million Woman March in Philadelphia, inspiring and encouraging families that traveled across the country to support and uplift the Black woman in America.
Mother Khadijah, as she has long been known, is the premier example to millions of Black women and the Minister often referred to his wife of more than seven decades as “the love of my life.”

Praised in numerous social media posts, “Mother Khadijah” was referred to as the model for Black queendom and royalty.
Stephanie Mills – “I have no words, (prayer hands) Mother Khadijah Farrakhan #POWER
Charlamagne Tha God – “The Most High is pleased and will reward Mother Khadijah abundantly for her good deeds. WHAT A LIFE!
Willie D of the Geto Boys- “72 years of marriage not one scandal..This is the First Lady of the Nation of Islam, a woman who was a regal woman, respected by all who knew her. She carried herself with the utmost dignity at all times. She never compromised. She stayed solid.”

“I want them to see her. I wanted my wife to stand, I wanted to say this about leadership, let me tell you something brothers, if you are going to lead, you really need a good woman by your side. I can tell you, that I would not be who I am or what I am if God didn’t bless me with who she is and what she has done to compliment me, and to help make me.”
The Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan, as he addressed the hip-hop community.
In honor of her service to and support of the Motherland, a children’s village was named in her honor—Mother Khadijah’s Children’s Village—which is a living tribute to her commitment to the next generation.
Mother Khadijah will lie in state on July 2 from 10am-8pm CDT and Janazah Service will begin at 11 am on July 3, 2026.
