AUSTIN, TX — Speaker Dustin Burrows has appointed State Representative Toni Rose (D-Dallas) as Vice Chair of the newly-created House Select Committee on Health Care Affordability. The committee is charged with examining increasing health care costs and advancing solutions to ensure Texans can access quality, affordable care.

“I am honored to serve as Vice Chair of this committee, especially at such a critical time,” said Rep. Rose. “Rising health care costs are straining household budgets, putting unsustainable burdens on employers, and decreasing Texans’ access to care. I am grateful that Speaker Burrows recognized the urgency of this crisis and took action.

“This committee presents an opportunity to take a comprehensive look at our health care framework, identify the root causes of rising costs, and develop solutions that make our health care system more effective.”

Rep. Rose has long championed efforts to improve health care access and affordability in Texas. During the 88th Legislative Session, she passed HB 12, which extended postpartum Medicaid coverage for new moms from six months to a full year. A former mental health professional, Rep. Rose understands the real-life impact that cost and access barriers have on Texas families.

“Affordable health care is not a luxury—it is a lifeline. It determines whether a child receives asthma medication, whether a mother can see a doctor, or whether a senior must forgo essential care,” Rep. Rose added. “Building a better Texas means making sure Texans are healthy and able to access the care they deserve. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to ensure our health care system is more affordable, transparent, and one that works for every Texan.”

Representative Rose serves on the House Committees on Appropriations, Human Services, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Article II, and as Vice Chair of the Committee on Calendars and Select Committee on Health Care Affordability. Elected in 2012, Representative Rose represents District 110, which includes the diverse communities of Oak Cliff, Pleasant Grove, and Balch Springs.
