Simmons, 6000 members are expected to convene through Sunday at the “top of the boot.” The public meeting included the traditional pomp and circumstance with sorority leadership, including international president and CEO Danette Anthony Reed, state and local dignitaries and more being introduced and delivering remarks. The keynote speaker for this opening event was esteemed sorority member, author and filmmaker ReShonda Tate. Video greetings were provided from leaders of the Divine Nine Black Greek letter organizations, with members adorned in their sorority or fraternity colors standing in the audience during designated times. The organization is bringing a major economic impact to Shreveport, including awarding a local charity with $8626.26. The opening day of the conference concluded with a welcome party at the Red River District market pavilions. Under the theme “The R.E.A.L. Deal: Betting on Service and Sisterhood,” the town will definitely be painted pink and green all weekend.
