
Dr. Donnie Breedlove was born in Austin, Texas, and graduated from the segregated Littig High School in Travis County. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas; a Master of Education from the University of Texas at Austin; and a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dallas history was made when Dr. Breedlove was appointed principal of A. Maceo Smith High School in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD), becoming the first female high school principal in the district’s history. A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, she is also an African American Education Archives and History Program Hall of Fame.
