Rep. Crockett Demands Accountability and Answers Following the Arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) sent three separate letters today in response to the arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort, escalating demands for accountability across multiple levels of the Department of Justice.

The letters were sent individually to:

Pam Bondi, The Attorney General of the United States,

Jim Jordan, The Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and

William Blier, The Acting Inspector General of the Department of Justice.

In her letter to the Attorney General, Rep. Crockett demanded the immediate release of Lemon and Fort and that all charges against them be dismissed, citing serious constitutional concerns and warning that arresting journalists for their reporting is a direct assault on the First Amendment.

In a separate letter to the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Crockett formally requested a congressional investigation into the arrests, emphasizing Congress’s constitutional obligation to conduct oversight and ensure that federal law enforcement is not being misused for political purposes.

In a third, independent letter to the DOJ’s Inspector General, Rep. Crockett requested a full investigation into corruption within the Department of Justice, including the prosecution of perceived political enemies and the broader pattern of weaponizing federal law enforcement.

“A constitutional crisis exists when the government uses its power to suppress speech, punish criticism, or target journalists for doing their jobs. The arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort raise serious constitutional concerns that demand immediate action,” said Rep. Crockett. “The Department of Justice must not be used to retaliate against perceived political opponents or to shield those in power from accountability. That is why I am demanding their immediate release, congressional oversight, and a full investigation by the DOJ Inspector General.”
