OBIT: MERCEDES WOODSON

Mercedes Woodson, affectionately called Mert, was born on August 9, 1942, in Bayou Goula, Louisiana, to Oliver Jones Sr. and Josephine Lawrence. Both parents preceded her in death. She remained a devoted member of Peniel Baptist Church until her health declined.

She retired from Aramark Services, where she met her husband, Samuel Woodson, who preceded her death. From this union, they had a blended family. Phillipha (Steven Jackson), Lechia (Victor Maiden), Ingrid (James Thompson), Kimberly “Nikki” Jones, and stepchildren Cynthia (Myron Smith Sr.), Joyce Green (Calvin)

She was a loving grandmother to grandchildren Bobby Joshua (Shalunda), Laquita Harper, Danté Harper, Malcolm Jackson, Megan Jones, Myron W. Smith Jr., Brandon Smith (Aundria), Breanna Smith, Carlo Green (Leticia), Kimberly Green

Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Jones Sr. and Josephine Jones; her husband, Samuel Woodson; her brothers, Oliver Jones (Janice) and Charles Jones; her sister, Gladys Martin (Joseph); her granddaughter, Brittany Hargrove; her grandson, DeGregory Thompson; her stepsons, Charles Woodson and Samuel Woodson Jr.; and her great-grandson, Logan Joshua.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her Aunt Eliza Lawrence, brother Louis Jones(Patrica); her sisters Ruby Tillman(Charles), Gertrude Knight(Larry), Geraldine Denby( Nelson), and Irma Anderson, Clyde Hollies, Gail Edwards, Harry Mosby, Henry Williams, Thomas Provo, Faye Jackson along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and dear friends.
