Mary Sheffield is the 76th mayor of Detroit, taking office in January 2026. A Democrat and the city’s first woman mayor, she previously represented District 5 on the Detroit City Council from 2014 to 2026 and served as Council President from 2022 to 2026, becoming the youngest person to hold that role. The Mayor has a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Central Michigan University. She also served as the co-pastor of New Destiny Christian Fellowship Church and is a leading advocate for children, civil rights, education, poverty alleviation, and social services.
