Breaking News: Potential candidates could make for interesting campaign season

Haynes and Crockett could be frontrunners

From staff reports:

Dr. Haynes
Rep. Jasmine Crockett

There are exciting headlines on the horizon, and Texas Metro News has learned that on the last day to file as a candidate for the Texas primary, December 8, 2025, two possible candidates are sure to add excitement to the election cycle.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant a stay on the new Texas congressional maps, Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, Senior Pastor of Dallas’ Friendship-West Baptist Church, is seriously exploring a potential run for U.S. House District 30 should Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett enter the race for U.S. Senate.

Dr. Haynes is aware of the “Draft Haynes for Congress” movement (drafthaynesforcongress.com (http://drafthaynesforcongress.com/) that is currently circulating and gaining momentum.

While Dr. Haynes is considering a candidacy, and that is “only” if Rep. Crockett is not in the race, he said he is “is humbled by the community’s call for his leadership at this time and is taking the community’s incredible outpouring of encouragement and support very seriously.”

A longtime pastor of Friendship-West, where Rep. Crockett is also a member, Dr. Haynes served as interim pastor while attending Bishop College. He graduated in August 1982 and was officially installed as pastor in April 1983.

Often praised for his “liberation theology,” and community activism, according to his bio, while a student at Bishop College, he also became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In 1996, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2005, Dr. Haynes received his Doctor of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation, where he studied at Christ Church, Oxford University in Oxford, England. His dissertation, “To Turn the World Upside Down: Church Growth in a Church Committed to Social Justice,” reflects his commitment to faith-based social activism. Currently, Dr. Haynes is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidate at the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, studying African American preaching and sacred rhetoric.
