This Week in Austin: Gov. Abbott designates Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as terrorist organizations in Texas, here’s why

By Rita Cook

AUSTIN – If you were not aware of the Muslim population in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Texas Governor Greg Abbott just gave everyone a much needed lesson on the fact.

I will not go down the rabbit hole pertaining to videos people post in which Muslims around the U.S. are declaring they are in the country to take over not integrate (to put it nicely).

FBI agent John Guandolo said in an interview “The entire purpose of Islamic doctrine is to insure there is an Islamic state throughout the entire world called a caliphate and under that Sharia law is the law of the land.”

Add to that the fact I have visited Muslim countries and while I am not going say any religion or way of life is wrong in this world, I can say with certainly the United States and the majority of its citizens do not understand and would not want the Islamic way of life.

It would not work here and taking that a step further it apparently will not be working in Texas any longer either.

I also want to remind before you start name calling, which has become so popular these days, that “Islamophobic,” or “bigot” is simply a word. In this case, it means you have not taken a very educated look at the bigger picture.

Did you know the Muslim Brotherhood has already been declared a terrorist organization by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Russia, Syria, Kazakhstan, Austria, Jordan, Kenya, and Egypt.

In Egypt where the brotherhood was founded it was outlawed in 2013 after years of violence and political manipulation.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE banned it in 2014 calling it a threat to national security. Russia banned it in 2003 and Syria introduced the death penalty for membership. Jordan shut it down in 2025 and Kenya added it to its terrorism list a few months ago.

A broad list of governments that have looked at the same evidence and come to the same conclusion. The Muslim Brotherhood is not a religious charity. It is a political movement with what has been called an “extremist ideology.”

To that end Gov. Abbott signed a proclamation last week designating the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorists and transnational criminal organizations in Texas.

In a FOX News interview Abbott reminded that one of the founders of the Texas division of CAIR was sent to prison for 65 years for financing terrorism.

A former training Sgt. for the Plano Police Department Douglas Beaton spoke at a city council meeting on the matter.

He said “There seems to be a general misunderstanding that you are talking about a plan to build an Islamic Sharia friendly community. The EPIC neighborhood already exists in Plano and it has been there for 12 years.”

Here are some facts he outlined about this neighborhood; 74 residential properties, a massive mosque, schools, medical clinic, multiple businesses, an office of an Islamic financing institution called the UIF Corporation, which is not a bank, but a Michigan-based corporation publicly stating its purpose is to “engage in financial transactions that are Sharia compliant.”

The first house built in that neighborhood was built next to the Plano Police Academy.
“It is a huge structure with two separate front doors,” Beaton said.

The rear of the property is a few feet from a large outdoor warning siren. The house has a large second story platform overlooking the restricted access parking lot where the PD stores specialized vehicles such as bomb trucks, bomb disposal equipment and the SWAT teams armored vehicle.

Beaton, a court recognized expert in SWAT team tactics and procedures, said the house has all the hallmarks of a fortress and command post. He said the rear of the house looks like an observation post and shooting platform. He wanted to know why someone would choose to build a house so close to a warning siren and a police training facility and build a huge platform overlooking police emergency property.

The first owner of the house is a leader in the EPIC neighborhood and cofounder of the Yaquine Institute for Islamic Research.

He suggested everyone visit that website and read what it has to say about instituting Sharia law.

Abbott has asked law enforcement to investigate “Sharia Courts.” There are two known courts in Dallas County. The governor reminded “The Texas Constitution does not allow Sharia courts or Sharia law. The statutes ban Sharia law and we are going to purge any attempt to impose Sharia law in Texas.”
