Langston University announced Tuesday that head football coach Quinton Morgan will not return next season, ending a decade-long tenure leading the Lions program.
“Coach Morgan’s service, dedication, and commitment to Langston University over the past 10 years have been greatly appreciated,” said Director of Athletics Donnita Rogers in a statement. “We thank him for his leadership and contributions to LU football.”
A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately, the school said.
Morgan recently completed his 10th season at the helm, having been promoted to head coach in 2015, following nine seasons as an assistant on the Langston staff. During his tenure, Morgan guided the Lions to a combined record of 68-33, including a 59-23 conference record.
Prior to becoming head football coach, he assumed the role of interim softball coach. It was under his direction, the team secured a record of 31 wins and advanced to the Red River Athletic Conference postseason tournament for the first time. His leadership steered the team to one of the best seasons in LU softball history.
His run included three consecutive conference championships from 2017 to 2019, as well as back-to-back appearances in the NAIA Football Championship Series Opening Round in 2017 and 2018.
Morgan departs as the second-winningest coach in Langston football history, trailing only legendary coach C.F. “Zip” Gayles, who led the program from 1930 to 1957.
