Senator West’s Statement on the Western District Decision on the Redistricting Maps

DALLAS— We are truly elated to hear that the Western District Court ruled “that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map,” enjoined these maps from being imposed on the citizens of Texas, and ruled that “reverting to the 2021 Map is the proper remedy.”

In this moment of victory, we cannot help but reaffirm what we already knew – the Trump DOJ letter to the Governor and the subsequent call by this legislature to implement these maps blatantly violated the law. That was the driving force behind our fight. We used every available tool to break quorum, alert the public, and sound the alarm. Now, we all see clearly that the spirit of justice endures. In Dallas alone, Congresswoman Crocket, Congresswoman Johnson, and Congressman Veasey keep their seats, and most importantly, their constituents retain their representation.

But the fight is not over. This is an example of what we can do when we band together and fight. Historically Underutilized Businesses are under attack. Schools are under attack. And the prices continue to rise. The 2021 Maps were also the subject of litigation. So while we won this round, rest assured that our opponents are mending their wounds and preparing for the next. And we must too. Continue to stand with me and my contemporaries to see this fight through to the end.
