Congresswoman Crockett on The Senate’s Failure to Address the Healthcare Crisis in the Short-Term Government Funding Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett issued this statement following on the Senate’s passage of a Continuing Resolution that fails to address the healthcare crisis:

“I’m heading back to D.C. to vote NO on this short-term funding bill—because it fails to address the healthcare crisis Republicans created.

“House Democrats have been clear from day one: we’re holding the line to make sure that our constituents (and theirs) have access to affordable healthcare. Our fight is for the people who can’t afford another hit—for the families watching their healthcare costs skyrocket and wondering how they’ll make it to next month.

“We want the government open. We want federal workers to get back to work and get the pay they’ve earned and deserve. We want airports back up and running. The Republicans have shown that there are no bounds on how low they are willing to go. It is a false choice to choose between food, healthcare, and workers. I will not look at crumbs and pretend that Republicans have offered a five-course meal.

“At the heart of this fight was one simple demand–extend the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits so families don’t see their premiums double overnight, and I am disgusted that people have forgotten or ignored our basic responsibilities.

“Republicans claim that they will address the healthcare crisis once the government re-opens. But, they also told us to trust that they would lower the cost of groceries. They told us to trust that they would bring down the cost of housing. They told us to trust them on the economy, and they have failed to deliver. I don’t trust them and the American people shouldn’t either.

“If Republicans want to keep playing games with people’s lives, that’s on them. But I refuse to put my name on it.”
