Cuisine & Conversation: A Bridge to Mental Wellness

Community event brings men together to talk openly about mental health

DALLAS, TX-Following the tragic passing of Marshawn Kneeland, a beloved member of the North Texas community, Louis Rainey, owner of The Pelican House, and Patrick LeBlanc, founder of Bridging the Gap Foundation (BTGF), joined forces to host Cuisine & Conversation: A Bridge to Mental Wellness. The free event aims to bring men together for an evening of dialogue, shared experiences, and healing-all over a shared meal.

The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 17th at 6:00PM at The Pelican House (107 S. Cedar Ridge Dr., Duncanville, TX 75116). Attendance is free and open to the public.

“After Marshawn’s passing, I couldn’t sleep. I kept asking myself what I could do; how I could give back and make a difference,” said Louis Rainey, event co-organizer. “As someone in the hospitality industry, I’ve always believed that food brings people together. So I thought, why not create a safe space where men can talk, connect, and heal-94 reasons to keep the conversation going in Marshawn’s honor.”

Bridging the Gap Foundation plays a vital role in Dallas by connecting underserved communities with accessible mental health care. Their mission centers on removing barriers to treatment and fostering awareness of mental health as a fundamental part of overall well-being. Through programs like CAREBridges, Bridge2Hope, and Let’s Talk, BTGF provides therapy, support services, and educational events across the metroplex.

The evening will feature free food, conversations, and resources for ongoing support. The goal is to help normalize conversations around mental health among men, particularly in communities where those discussions have long been stigmatized or ignored.

“This is not a seminar, it’s a space for real talk, empathy, and connection,” added Patrick LeBlanc of BTGF. “We’re here to remind men that vulnerability is not weakness, it’s strength.”
