GLENN HEIGHTS, TX – The City of Glenn Heights wrapped up an eventful week filled with civic engagement, celebration, and wellness initiatives that brought residents together to learn, connect, and thrive.
On Tuesday, October 28, Mayor Sonja A. Brown hosted her Q4 Let’s TACO ’Bout It Town Hall, where she and city staff discussed several key topics, including the upcoming water tower relocation, November ballot propositions and bonds, utility billing updates, and the recent uptick in coyote sightings. One of the proposed bonds would fund a new animal shelter for Glenn Heights.
Resident Jana Weaver inquired whether new land would need to be purchased for the shelter. Mayor Brown clarified, “No. Council discussed temporarily housing current animals at another facility while the current shelter is demolished and a new shelter is built on the existing property.”
Chief Horn also addressed the community’s growing concern about coyotes, offering safety tips for encounters and guidance on when to contact animal control.
The event was another successful and engaging Town Hall on Taco Tuesday, with tacos provided by local favorite Taco Chilo.
On Friday, October 31, the city hosted its third annual Fall Festival, transforming City Center into a family-friendly hub of fun, music, and community spirit. The event featured costume contests, carnival-style games, live entertainment, a pumpkin patch, and food vendors from across North Texas. Families enjoyed a safe, festive environment thanks to the hard work of city staff, local partners, and dedicated volunteers.
Mayor Brown expressed her appreciation “Each year, this event grows bigger and better. Our staff, vendors, and volunteers outdid themselves — this truly was the best Fall Festival yet.”
The weekend concluded on Saturday, November 1, with the Glenn Heights Community Health Symposium, hosted by Mayor Brown at City Center. The event focused on accessible health services and preventive care, coinciding with Movember, a global movement raising awareness for men’s health issues.
The symposium featured:
- Free prostate cancer screenings through the on-site Prostate Screening Truck
- Blood sugar, cholesterol, and genetic screenings
- Health resources and educational materials for men and families
The event ran from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., alongside mobile health screenings, and featured a variety of local vendors dedicated to supporting community wellness.
“Our goal is to make Glenn Heights the healthiest city in Texas — and ultimately, the healthiest city in the nation,” said Mayor Brown. “When we invest in our community’s well-being, we build a stronger, more resilient city for everyone.”
