From downtown to South Dallas, our city is in a remarkable chapter of transformative growth.

On Thursday, Wells Fargo deepened its commitment to Dallas with a $6.8 million philanthropic investment directed toward neighborhood revitalization and economic growth in the Forest District. Community organizations—including Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, St. Philip’s School & Community Center, and Forest Forward—will use this funding to support small business development, affordable housing, job creation, and commercial property rehabilitation, including restoration of the historic Forest Theater.
Wells Fargo has been a trusted Dallas partner for decades, but this announcement shows a deeper commitment to strengthening local neighborhoods and expanding economic opportunity. Last year, the City of Dallas committed an $8 million grant to Forest Theater’s redevelopment knowing it would encourage economic growth, and Wells Fargo’s commitment to South Dallas shows a clear return on that investment.
The opportunity that defines this city is driven by entrepreneurship, innovation, and strong public-private partnerships. I am grateful to Wells Fargo and its leadership for their commitment to investing in Dallas communities, empowering trusted local nonprofits, and providing the resources small businesses need to succeed. With Wells Fargo’s support, the incredible transformation underway in South Dallas and the Forest District will continue.
Downtown Development
On Wednesday, the City Council approved an agreement to support the redevelopment of the Bank of America tower—aka “The Green Building”—the tallest skyscraper in Dallas. The agreement includes up to $103 million in economic development incentive funding to support a $409 million project adding to the office tower 280 new four-star or higher hotel rooms, a new parking garage, and new street-level retail and restaurant space.
In addition to strengthening public safety, Dallas is invigorating its downtown core with targeted economic incentives that catalyze further economic growth and secure the Central Business District’s long-term economic success.
Law Enforcement Training Center Appointment
In other news, I recently appointed former council member Tennell Atkins to chair the UNT Dallas Law Enforcement Training Center Task Force.
The new training center is a monumental investment in public safety that will prepare hundreds of recruits to serve Dallas with integrity, professionalism, and pride. It will boost recruitment and morale while establishing a new national benchmark for training officers to meet the demands of 21st-century policing.
Atkins has long been a champion for Dallas and a trusted leader in building consensus around complex civic projects. As chair of this task force, he will serve as the vital link between the City of Dallas, philanthropic partners, and UNT Dallas leaders. His stewardship will ensure that Dallas delivers a world-class law enforcement training center worthy of its police officers and residents.
