East-West Shrine Bowl

A tradition nearly a century in the making continues with the 101st East-West Shrine Bowl, the nation’s oldest college all-star game.

This year’s press conference brought excitement to The Star in Frisco, where 12 Shriners International members gathered, including Shrine Bowl Hall of Famer Daryl Johnston, who Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones introduced. But the day’s true inspiration came from 16-year-old Dallas Edwards, this year’s Shriners Ambassador. Born with a tibia condition that led to a leg amputation at age 3, Edwards never let it hold him back.

With the support of his mother and Dr. Kenneth Powell from the Louisiana Shriners, Edwards was able to thrive.

“The results were almost immediate,” he said. “I ran at full speed for the first time at 14 years old.”

Now a varsity football player at West Bolivar High School, Edwards has tallied 10 sacks this season, intending to reach 20 by the end of the season. Beyond the field, he’s focused on making a lasting impact.
