The 92% Club powered by Black Women on a Mission brought not just students at Paul Quinn, but people across the community together for a powerful and inspiring event. Leaders from across different sectors gathered to share insights on civic engagement, voting rights, and the importance of representation. The room was filled with energy as attendees heard directly from trailblazers like State Rep. Toni Rose, Dede McGuire of DeDe in the Morning, NAACP Image Award nominee Lynae Vanee, 5X Emmy Award winner Tashara Parker, and Vote Save America’s Shaniqua McClendon.

State Rep. Toni Rose spoke directly about protecting democracy and voting rights, telling me:
“Voters are supposed to pick their leaders — not the other way around. That’s exactly what those maps were doing.”

When I asked Camille McCallum, Founder of Black Women on a Mission, about the many leaders who came to speak, she said:
“It’s a show that truly cares about the community — about what’s going on. For many people, this might be their first time hearing about Black Women on a Mission or the 92% Club. But it wasn’t about the name. It was about saying, ‘Hey, something’s happening for the community, and we want to be there. We want to be in the room.’ You could see that the connection was so genuine and authentic.”

The event highlighted the importance of community engagement and making sure that voices are heard, with speakers emphasizing both local and national implications of political decisions like redistricting. The conversations provided insight into the work being done to protect democracy and empower the community
