Retirement Celebration honors Dr. Alfred L. Roberts Sr.

After 23 years of dedicated service, Dr. Alfred L. Roberts Sr. was celebrated for his leadership of the African American Education Archives and History Program (AAEAHP), which he founded in 2002. Through his vision and leadership, the organization has preserved the stories of educators of color, established the African American Educators Hall of Fame, and created programs that highlight the legacy of Black education in Dallas.

At his retirement reception, Dr. Roberts was surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues who gathered to honor him. He was presented with a symbolic “money easel” from the executive board and a plaque from longtime colleague Verna Brown Mitchell. Reverend LaTasha Roberts, and African American Museum founder Dr. Harry Robinson were among the many who offered heartfelt tributes.

Under Dr. Roberts’ guidance, AAEAHP inducted 193 educators into the Hall of Fame, recorded 193 oral histories, and awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships. As the baton passes to incoming president Lincoln Butler Sr., Dr. Roberts’ legacy of “continuous improvement” will continue to inspire as he reminded everyone that he was not retiring from service.

A professor emeritus at Paul Quinn College, Dr. Roberts spent almost four decades with Dallas ISD as a teacher,principal, assistant superintendent human resources, administrator for a cluster of elementary schools, and executive director alternative certification and safety and crisis management.

He received his Bacheloro f Science Degreen Animal Science fro Prairie View A&M University and Master of Educaiton and PhD degrees from Texas A&M University.
