Garland ISD on Track to Become A-Rated District, Leads Dallas County in TEA Gains

Garland ISD is on its way to becoming an A-rated district, achieving record gains and now ranking among the top-rated districts in Dallas County after a landmark year in the 2025 Texas Education Agency (TEA) Accountability Ratings. The district secured more A-rated campuses and top distinctions than ever before. More than one-third of campuses earned an A rating, and approximately two-thirds received an A or B rating.

The TEA’s A–F accountability system evaluates how well districts and schools prepare students across key educational goals, such as achievement, progress, and performance gaps for students most in need. With one of the highest College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) rates in the county, region, and state at 96%, GISD is well on its way to achieving an overall A rating.

Progress Toward an A-Rated District

Overall, GISD’s rating rose from an 81 in 2024 to an 84 in 2025, including a jump to a B in Student Achievement and a five-point gain in the “Closing the Gaps” domain. Since the introduction of STAAR 2.0, when nearly all districts across the state saw drops in scores, GISD has demonstrated steady improvement year over year.

“These ratings are more than a score increase. This is definitive proof that our students can achieve at the highest levels when given high expectations and the support they deserve,” said Superintendent Dr. Ricardo López. “We will not be satisfied until we reach an A rating as a district, and we are well on our way.”

More A-Rated Campuses Than Ever Before

The district achieved record-setting gains, increased its number of A-rated campuses, and earned more top distinctions since TEA’s A-F system has been introduced, including 23 campuses that earned an A rating, 42 campuses that received at least one distinction, and nine campuses that earned all possible distinctions, a significant rise that reflects Garland ISD’s high standards and unwavering commitment to student success.

High School:

  • 6 of 6 Distinctions: Abbett, Vial, Kimberlin, Spring Creek, Walnut Glen, and Watson

Commitment to Becoming an A-Rated District

These results highlight Garland ISD’s dedication to providing every student with the tools and support to succeed, a dedication made possible by the skill, passion, and hard work of our teachers and staff. Their commitment in the classroom and beyond is the driving force behind our progress.

They also underscore the district’s steady climb toward an overall A rating. When expectations are high and resources are strong, students achieve extraordinary outcomes. Garland ISD’s momentum proves that excellence is not a moment; it’s a mindset. As we continue our journey toward becoming an A-rated district, we remain Unmatched in our pursuit of student success, innovation, and opportunity for all.
