Today, the Texas for All Coalition, along with national partners and state organizations, announced a National Day of Action on Saturday, August 16 to fight back against the Trump takeover across the country.
The Texas House Democrats are denying quorum to stop the Trump takeover of our state and block his attempt to rig the 2026 midterm elections. But Trump isn’t stopping in Texas. He’s targeting Missouri, Ohio, Florida, and every state he can twist to help him steal Congress next year. States across the country are starting to fight back.
Trump is terrified of the American people. He knows he can’t win on his ideas, so he’s trying to take Congress by hook or by crook–and he’s doing it by silencing the voices of communities of color. We’re not going to let that happen.
Our goal is to mobilize communities nationwide, and we’ve created FightTheTrumpTakeover.com as a digital headquarters for the Day of Action, which lists nearly 50 events in 20 states nationwide and counting. Texas will lead with an anchor rally at the Capitol in Austin. Across the country, people will be showing up at their state houses, city halls, or community spaces to make it clear — we see what Trump is doing, and we won’t stand for it.
Drucilla Tigner, Executive Director of Texas For All said:
“Across Texas, and across the country, communities are speaking out in a united voice to call for an end to the Trump takeover. Though this fight started in Texas, it doesn’t end here. This isn’t just about redistricting or one state’s politics. It’s about the future of our democracy.”
Rick Levy, President of the TX AFL-CIO said:
“From Texas to California to Illinois, the labor movement is united in resisting the Trump takeover. This is a defining battle for the future of our democracy, and working people across the country understand the urgent need to act. As this fight continues to spread nationwide, we will stand strong this Saturday—to defend our votes, protect our rights, and stop this redistricting scheme.”
Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible said:
“Donald Trump’s latest scheme is as crooked as it gets – redrawing the maps, rewriting who counts, and threatening to throw opposition lawmakers in jail, all to lock in minority rule for a generation. As a Texan, I am too familiar with corrupt politicians – but what Donald Trump and Greg Abbott are doing is beyond corruption. It’s a damn coup. But I also know that Texas is full of courage – from the Democratic leaders refusing Trump and Abbott to take away their democracy to the people on the streets showing up in solidarity with them every day. On Saturday, folks from Alaska to Maine will join Texans in the fight to save our democracy. We’ll show up in full force, and fight for our democracy with every tool we’ve got. This may have started in Texas, but it will end with all of us.”
Jonathan Paik, Executive Director of OC Action said:
“What happens in Texas impacts California. As our friends in Texas rise up to resist the Trump takeover of our democratic processes, we in California stand ready to join them in solidarity. And we will answer the call for solidarity actions this Saturday to fight for our democracy.”
