The Farmers Branch Bluegrass Festival took place at the DoubleTree Dallas Hotel. Performances varied from a Sunday gospel service to family-friendly fun and “jam with the band” sessions all weekend long.
Garland
Garland ISD recently broke ground on several major Bond 2023 projects aimed at enhancing educational facilities across the district. These projects include the construction of a new
Freeman Elementary, a rebuilt Kimberlin Academy, and Multi-Program Activity Centers at all five high schools. The bond, approved by voters in May 2023, is part of a long-term plan to support student growth and expand academic and extracurricular opportunities.
Glenn Heights
The City of Glenn Heights, in partnership with TxDOT and Dallas County, has launched the East Bear Creek Road Expansion Project to widen a two-mile stretch from South Hampton Road to I‑35E. The project will upgrade the roadway from two to four lanes and add sidewalks and bike facilities to improve traffic flow, safety, and quality of life. Funded through local, state, and federal sources, this initiative aims to support growth, reduce congestion, and boost economic development in the area.
Grand Prairie
The Grand Prairie Farmers Market is held at Market Square (120 W Main St) Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through early fall. It features produce, baked goods, flowers, and rotating entertainment or themed events.

Highland Park
Highland Park has launched a $22 million Wycliffe Avenue Reconstruction Project to reclassify its dam from a “high hazard” to a “low hazard” status, meaning failure is no longer expected to result in loss of life. The project, approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), will replace the existing dam with a new bridge designed to safely withstand a 100-year storm event. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2026 and will take approximately 20 to 24 months, improving drainage, utilities, and flood protection for the community.
Hutchins

Lancaster
The Lancaster City Council is set to consider renewing Oncor Electric’s franchise for access to public property and infrastructure. They will also vote on a $141,531 agreement with Star Transit for transportation services in Fiscal Year 2025–2026.
Lewisville
A new no-cost Medicare program, GUIDE is now available nationwide to provide comprehensive support and resources for family caregivers of dementia patients, aiming to improve patient outcomes and reduce caregiver burden. Right at home, Lewisville is among the first healthcare service centers in the country to implement this new GUIDE model, focused on improving the lives of individuals with dementia.
Mesquite
The Mesquite City Council approved the sixth annual update to the Iron Horse public improvement district & service and assessment plan, continuing special assessments on property owners through 2030. The ordinance updates the assessment roll for the Iron Horse District residential and retail development located in both Dallas and Kaufman counties. According to the agenda, the district currently holds $9.38 million in outstanding assessments, with annual installments totaling approximately $860,448 due Jan. 31, 2026.
Ovilla
The City of Ovilla has launched over $770,000 in road repairs as part of this year’s budget, targeting key streets like Johnson Lane, Westmoreland, Hosford, Georgetown, and Buckboard. Backed by a voter-approved sales tax increase for street maintenance, the city is also developing a long-term Capital Improvement Plan to guide future infrastructure projects. Officials say more repairs are planned for next year, including solutions for major corridors like Cockrell Hill Road.
Richardson
The Richardson Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 101 S Coit Rd, offering produce, artisan foods, and crafts from more than 40 vendors.
Rowlett
Back to school dates for students varies depending on the ISD. Most of Rowlett is served by Garland ISD, which starts on Tuesday, August 12. Eastern Rowlett, under Rockwall ISD, begins its first day of school Wednesday, August 13.
Sachse
The Prather Park Pickleball Courts will host their long-awaited ribbon cutting event on Friday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 3800 Lexington Avenue, Highland Park, TX 75205. Construction for the new courts began in October 2024, and new features include upgraded lighting, seating, fencing, and a flexible design that allows for future reconversion to tennis use. The ceremony coincides with National Pickleball Day and will feature mini lessons, paddle battle play, and more. Parking will be available along Lexington Avenue, St. Johns Drive, and Drexel Drive.
Seagoville
A Citizen Police Academy will be held by the Seagoville Police Department from Tuesday, August 12 to Tuesday, September 30.
Sunnyvale
Following the resignation of Place 4 Council Member Mark Eldridge, the Council will call a special election on or before Aug. 26, to be held on the uniform election date, Nov. 4. The filing period for residents to file for a place on the ballot will be announced soon.
University Park
University Park students fall under Dallas ISD and classes will begin Tuesday, August 12.
Wilmer
The Wilmer City Council will consider several resolutions in their upcoming August meeting, including accepting the 2025 population estimate from NCTCOG and updating authorized bank signatories. Council will also vote on an agreement with NCT9-1-1 to maintain emergency communication systems and a resolution to delay Oncor’s proposed rate change while it undergoes review.
Wylie
While Wylie does not have a large city-run market, Wylie Farmers Market runs seasonally on Saturdays at Olde City Park. Dates are typically April through September, with occasional pop-ups.
