TBAAL Makes Historic Announcement on Permanent Home Project

By Sylvia Powers

The architectural, design, and marketing teams behind the TBAAL renovation project give this initiative a resounding thumbs up, recognizing its positive impact and lasting value for the community.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) recently hosted a major press briefing at the Naomi Bruton Theater, drawing media from across the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The event unveiled plans for a multi-million-dollar permanent home construction project.

Honorable Diane Ragsdale, Former Mayor Pro Tem, City of Dallas, speaks about the historical significance of the renovation project.

As part of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) Master Plan, TBAAL will temporarily relocate to Fair Park for approximately three years while
renovations and construction of its new permanent facility are underway.
During the press conference, Eva Williams—Project Manager from Dikita Enterprises—presented a comprehensive project overview. KAI Design Studio, which holds the architectural and engineering contract, will lead the renovation efforts.
This transformative project is being led by Black-owned businesses.

Curtis King is overjoyed by the legacy TBAAL is building through this project, celebrating the artistic vision and cultural impact it will leave for future generations.

“I feel excited, enthused, energized, and deeply encouraged. This moment uplifts me. I truly believe that sometimes we must suffer through something to get to something
greater.”
— Curtis King, Founder of TBAAL
