Fair Park-Community Park State Funding Press Conference and Ribbon Cutting

Last week marked a special moment, not just in the progress of Fair Park but in the future of South Dallas.

South Dallas is rich in history, in culture, and in community spirit. Fair Park is more than the State Fair. It is a place where children should play, families can walk and bike together, and where neighbors can connect and celebrate to build a stronger sense of unity.

That’s why I was proud to support the funding proposal for this Community Park as it moved through the legislative process led by Rep. Venton Jones. As soon as it advanced from the House to the Senate, I knew what I had to do. I made sure those dollars didn’t just stay on paper, that they made it across the finish line. Because our community deserves more than promises.

The Community Park at Fair Park is going to be a game-changer. It’s going to include something for everyone, such as a playground built for children of all ages and abilities, picnic areas for families to gather, water play features, shaded green lawns for celebrations or simple relaxation, and walking trails that connect us, not just to nature, but to each other.

Let this park stand as a symbol of what’s possible when we prioritize our people. When we choose joy. When we invest in our neighborhoods. When we believe that every child deserves a place to play, and every family deserves a place to thrive.
