Numerous homemade explosive devices were found Sunday in a wooded area near a park in Garland, authorities said.

A passerby walking around Wynne Park called police after finding an open suitcase with several items, some resembling explosives, scattered nearby around 11:30 a.m. Sunday near West Centerville Road and South First Street.

Garland’s bomb unit confirmed there were “numerous live homemade explosive devices near the suitcase,” police said in a news release Monday. Bomb technicians from the Garland Police Department and FBI worked into the night to disarm the devices.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Garland Police Department at 972-485-4840 or submit tips anonymously through Garland Crime Stoppers at 972-272-8477.

Garland Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to arrests or indictments.
