DESOTO – DeSoto Police Chief Joe Costa applauded his Charlie Shift officers last
week when in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 4, around 3 a.m. DeSoto Police Officers responded to a home burglary reported in the 600 block of Shasta Street.

The homeowner had alerted dispatch that several masked individuals had broken
into his residence through the back door, according to DeSoto police.

The individuals then fled in a red Toyota Corolla.

The homeowner told police he had been monitoring his surveillance system
when he saw the suspects approaching his front door pretending to be a food delivery service.

The suspects then entered the homeowner’s back yard and attempted to enter
the home but fled after opening the backdoor.

The officers from the “Charlie Shift” were able to locate the suspect vehicle,
as it was attempting to leave the neighborhood.

The occupants of the vehicle were 23-year-old Pedro Granados and 23-year-old
Joseph Pumpelly, out of Mesquite.

The men told police they had intended to steal money from the residence,
and did not know the homeowner was home.

DeSoto officers also found a handgun, cocaine, masks, and gloves in the suspect’s vehicle.

Both individuals are facing charges for Burglary of Habitation, a second-degree felony.

Pumpelly was also charged with Possession of Cocaine and Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm.

“I commend the swift actions of the Charlie Shift officers for their teamwork
and effective response, leading to the safe apprehension of the suspects,” Costa concluded.
