After solidifying its place as one of Houston’s most beloved restaurants, the Turkey Leg Hut has officially closed its doors.

On November 22, 2024, a federal judge authorized the property’s landlord, CNPH Properties, LLC, to proceed with foreclosure on the restaurant’s building at 4830 Almeda Road.

The judge converted the Third Ward restaurant’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy to Chapter 7, allowing the restaurant’s landowner to terminate the lease.

All of its assets are ordered to be sold to repay creditors.

The move has been in the works for months after an onslaught of bad press, which included being shut down for 30 health code violations, bankruptcy and lawsuits from creditors and business partners.

The Turkey Leg Hut owner owes the landlord more than $100,000.

A Third Ward Treasure
Since its opening in 2017, the Turkey Leg Hut, founded by Lynn Price and Nakia Holmes, quickly became a must-visit destination. Renowned for its signature turkey legs and lively atmosphere, the restaurant attracted not only local residents but also tourists and celebrities.

It has become a culinary gem in Houston’s Third Ward, consistently drawing crowds eager to enjoy its unique offerings.

Challenges Behind the Scenes
Despite its success, financial struggles weighed heavily on the Turkey Leg Hut. In December 2022, US Foods filed a $1.2 million lawsuit against the restaurant, alleging unpaid bills. Early in 2023, the Turkey Leg Hut faced another legal setback when a former business partner was awarded over $900,000 in a lawsuit.

By March 2023, the restaurant filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure its finances and remain open. However, the challenges only mounted. Court records revealed unpaid rent, and by mid-2023, the restaurant reportedly had to lay off half its staff, including the estranged husband of co-founder Lynn Price.

The End of an Era
Despite efforts to maintain operations and the unwavering loyalty of its patrons, the Turkey Leg Hut’s financial burdens became insurmountable. The judge’s November 2024 ruling paved the way for foreclosure, ending the restaurant’s run in Third Ward.

Though its doors are closed, the Turkey Leg Hut leaves a legacy as a vibrant hotspot that once brought people together over flavorful meals and unforgettable experiences.
